Global Power Consulting has significant experience implementing AMI technologies such as Smart Meter, Distribution Collector Units, SCADA technologies in Hydro, and Fossil Fuel Power Plants as well as Transmission and Distribution automation infrastructure to allow two-way digital communication between various devices in the field and operation centers.
AMI Field Deployment of SmartMeter™
California’s largest utility needed to deploy 5.1 million Silver Spring Networks’ meters and RF data collector network. Global Power Consulting directed the deployment by working with the utility’s PMO, engineering, and meter techs. After nearly 100% deployment, SmartMeter™ demonstrated a 98.6% read rate average. The high read rate was a direct result of Global Power Consulting’s working with Utility engineers and jointly recommending placement of MESH technology API’s across challenging rural and urban terrain to ensure that strong two-way communication RF signals deliver timely and accurate data uploads as well as outage management reporting.
AMI Smart Meter to Cash Integration
California’s largest utility needed to implement and integrate new Smart Meter™ technologies with existing (often antiquated) operational systems and interfaces. Global Power Consulting program-managed the implementation of AMI data interfaces from Silver Spring Networks and Aclara SmartMeter™ through the NCC Control Units, Meter Data Management System (Ecologic Analytics), to the Billing System (CC&B), and Customer Data Warehouse (CDW) and eventually to a Customer Web Presentment system (Opower) offering an end-user’s cost, interval usage, rate comparison, and ways to save.
We meet a utility’s challenge to:
- Deploy Smart Meters in the field
- Integrate field AMI systems to billing and Customer Data Warehouse systems
- Integrate Customer Data Warehouse (Billing and Customer Usage) for customer presentment (WEB)
- Implement demand response programs based on customer load and usage
AMI Smart Meter Data Warehouse Implementation
California’s largest utility needed to receive 15 and 60 minute customer usage data as well as Anchor Reads for 9.7 million Gas and Electric Smart Meters™ and retain it for 7 years while making the data radially accessible on-line for 1.5 years.
Global Power Consulting designed, architected and delivered a customer data warehouse with integration into various databases such as CC&B (Oracle), Asset Management (SAP), TargetBase, Tableau, SAS, Salesforce.com, Opower , C3, and more.
A number of internal departments access this data every day and over 3.3 million utility customers use this data to manage their daily, weekly and monthly energy consumption.
